iPhone 7

After a long wait and a lot of speculation, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have now been officially announced. Apple made the announcement at a special media event at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco and, for those of you who weren’t able to view the event as it happened, we are going to round up the new features of the next generation of iPhone.

iPhone 7 | 7 Plus Features :

Both handsets have an awful lot to offer this time around, possibly one of the largest iPhone released ever.

  • Design – not much change here although we do note that the antenna bands have been neatly stored away on the top and bottom edges of the iPhones, making them all but invisible
  • Colors – we lose Space Gray from the lineup but, in addition to Silver, Gold and Rose Gold, we get two more colors, Jet Black and Black iphoen-7-colours
  • Display – No change in size or screen resolution but we do get a 25% brighter screen in the form of Retina HD, featuring color management and a wide color gamut
  • Performance – as expected, we get the new generation of processor, the A10 Fusion, consisting of a quad-core A10 and the M10 co-processor. Together they offer us 40% more in terms of performance and 50% more graphical performance than the current A9 chip.
  • 3D Touch – Improved pressure sensors make the 3D Touch feature more responsive and more accurate
  • Home Button – Instead of the mechanical home button we are used to, the iPhone 7 models will sport a Force-Sensitive Touch ID home button, complete with a Taptic engine
  • Proximity Sensors – These get an upgrade, making hand gestures more detectable, even in low light
  • Speakers and Headphone Jack – As expected, the 3.5mm headphone jack goes, replaced by lightning-enabled ear pods instead and, with the extra space, we now get stereo speakers. To accommodate older 3.5mm headphones, Apple will also provide a lightning adaptor out of the box
  • Water and Dust Resistant – Another first, both iPhone receive IP67 rating, meaning they are both resistant to water and dust. In terms of water, the iPhone can now be used in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes
  • Camera – The biggest ever camera upgrade on an iPhone, both iPhones retain the 12 MP sensor but they get bigger sensors and apertures, better low-light photography, the True Tone Flash with 4 LEDs and a FaceTime Camera upgrade to 7 MP. The iPhone 7 finally gets OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and the iPhone 7 Plus gets the long awaited and much rumored dual lens camera with two 12 MP sensors iphone-7-plus
  • Battery – Small increases in battery size for each iPhone mean slightly longer battery life, about an hour more than the iPhone 6S/6S Plus
  • Storage Capacity – Gone are the 16 GB and 64 GB storage capacity options. Instead we get 32 GB as the smallest, followed by 128 GB and the addition of a 256 GB option

Accessories :

Out of the box, both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus will come with a pair of Lightning-Enabled ear pods together with the 3.5mm to Lightning adapter. Apple has also announced the AirPods, wireless ear pods with Bluetooth connectivity, which will be available separately later in the year. They also announce a range of cases for both iPhones in leather and in silicon

Price :

There is no change in pricing from the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus so, for each model, you can expect to pay:

  • 32 GB – $649 unlocked or $199 on contract
  • 128 GB – $749 unlocked or $2.99 on contract
